The XK120 is the car that put Jaguar on the world stage. When it debuted in 1948 its name advertised a claimed 120 mph top speed, which made it among the fastest production cars of its day, and the elegant fixed head coupe that joined the lineup in 1951 added a level of refinement the roadsters never offered. This 1953 example has been the subject of a ground-up, nut-and-bolt, frame-off restoration, and the results are outstanding. The paint, chrome, and interior are all excellent, with only a few minor blemishes throughout.

Under the bonnet sits the matching-numbers 3.4-liter twin-cam XK inline-six, the legendary engine that went on to power Jaguar’s Le Mans winners and stayed in production for decades. It starts, runs, and drives exceptionally well, and all lights and gauges are fully operational.

What sets this XK120 apart is a set of thoughtful, well-chosen upgrades that make it far more usable than an original-spec car while preserving its character:

Speedway front disc brake conversion from SNG Barrett. The XK120 left the factory with drum brakes all around. This conversion from one of the most respected Jaguar specialists delivers dramatically improved, more consistent stopping power.

5-speed manual gearbox. The original 4-speed Moss box is notoriously slow-shifting and has no synchromesh on first gear. The 5-speed gives smooth, modern shifts, and the overdrive top gear means relaxed highway cruising at lower RPM.

EZ Electric Power Steering. The system is silent and completely maintenance-free. It transforms low-speed maneuvering and parking, where the XK120’s heavy steering is otherwise a workout, without dulling the car’s road feel at speed.

Upgraded aluminum radiator with electric cooling fan. It keeps temperatures in check in traffic and on hot days, a common weak point for these cars in stock form.

This is a beautifully restored, matching-numbers engine XK120 coupe that combines timeless 1950s British style with the reliability and drivability to use it as intended. It’s ready to show, drive, and enjoy.
