1967 Morgan Plus 4 — Triumph TR4A-Powered | Chrome Wire Wheels | Full Weather Equipment. One of the most characterful British sports cars ever built — a genuine Morgan Plus 4 from the height of the model’s production, driving exactly as it should.
By 1967 the Plus 4 had reached a mature, well-sorted expression it’s formula: the bodywork had been refined through over fifteen years of continuous production, and the 2.1-liter Triumph TR4A engine fitted to this car delivered strong, tractable performance in a package weighing barely 1,700 lbs.
Morgan used various Triumph units across the Plus 4’s production run, and the TR4A’s 2,138cc inline four — with its twin SU carburetors, seven-bearing crankshaft, and strong mid-range torque — is widely regarded as one of the best-matched powerplants the model ever received. It pulls willingly from low revs, rewards a free-revving driving style, and has a characterful exhaust note well suited to the open Morgan cockpit.
Drivetrain & Dynamics
This car starts instantly with a flick of the key on every occasion, including cold starts — the hallmark of a well-tuned, healthy engine. Oil pressure is strong, the engine feels crisp throughout the rev range, and gear shifts are direct and positive with no grinding into gear or popping out. The 4-speed gearbox with its short, mechanical throw is a pleasure to use. On the road, the driving dynamics are characteristic of a well-sorted Morgan: immediate steering response, and a taut communicative chassis.
Exterior
Paint quality is high, with genuine depth, gloss, and shine throughout. The car currently presents in honest driver condition — there are several chips and scratches on the body consistent with regular use, but nothing that detracts from its overall presentation at normal viewing distance. Panels are straight and rust-free, panel gaps are excellent, and door shut action is good. The chrome wire wheels are a correct and handsome period feature, and their condition complements the overall presentation well.
Interior
The interior is very presentable, with all surfaces finished in leather. Lights and gauges are all operational. The car comes equipped with a full complement of weather equipment: tonneau cover, top boot cover, hood, and side curtains. Having the complete, correct set in usable condition adds genuine practical and collectible value.
Morgan produced the Plus 4 in relatively modest numbers throughout its run, and well-preserved, correctly-specified examples from the mid-to-late 1960s have become increasingly sought after among collectors and drivers who want a car with authentic period character rather than a modern replica of it. The TR4A-engined cars in particular are regarded as the sweet spot of the model — powerful enough to be genuinely quick, simple enough to be maintained by any competent classic car mechanic, and historically significant enough to hold and appreciate in value.
This example presents as a car that has been used, appreciated, and properly maintained — not a trailer queen, not a project, but a sorted, driveable Plus 4 ready to be enjoyed immediately.
