1974 Triumph TR6 – Original Driver | Running and Driving | Great Project Base
Offered for sale is this 1974 Triumph TR6—a very original, running, and driving example that makes for an excellent project or classic driver. It’s a car you can enjoy as-is while gradually improving over time.
The engine bay presents very nicely and retains a highly original appearance. The front three-quarters of the undercarriage and frame are solid, while the rear quarter does show signs of previous rust repair as well as some current rust-through in a few frame areas (see images). The trunk metal is solid and free of damage.
Mechanically, the TR6 runs well with strong oil pressure. The engine starts reliably and the 4-speed gearbox shifts smoothly with no grinding or popping out of gear (see driving video). The suspension, however, feels tired and would benefit from a rebuild. There is also an audible clunk from the rear end when transitioning between forward and reverse motion, indicating possible worn differential mounts.
The exterior body and paint show wear consistent with an older driver. Most panel gaps are good, with the exception of the driver-side front fender and hood, which appear to have sustained damage in the past and show some misalignment. The car has numerous scratches, chips, scuffs, and dings throughout. While we attempted to polish out many of these blemishes, they remain visible on close inspection. The only significant body rust appears around and below the rear bumper (see images).
Inside, the TR6 is in nicely preserved driver condition. The dash is in excellent shape, and all gauges are functioning. The seats and carpets show minor wear, with the driver’s seat exhibiting a small tear in the vinyl seat bottom. The trunk area is clean, solid, and free of accident damage. The top in in good usable condition.
Included with the sale are useful extras such as a spare dashboard, new seat bottom diaphragms, miscellaneous parts, and multiple workshop manuals. The previous owner suspected rust may be forming inside the fuel tank. In response, we installed a new fuel line and filter to mitigate any immediate issues.
This TR6 offers a great opportunity to get into a classic British roadster with authentic character and solid fundamentals—a perfect candidate for gradual restoration.
