1974 MGB GT – Comprehensive Restoration
This 1974 MGB GT underwent a complete and meticulous restoration throughout 2023 and early 2024, resulting in a car that drives better than when it left the factory. The project began with an exceptionally original, laser-straight body showing no evidence of rust or accident history.
Every major component has been rebuilt or replaced. The engine was fully overhauled with new pistons, rings, connecting rod and crank bearings, and all new seals. Supporting systems include a new water pump, oil pump, electronic distributor, Weber carburetor, radiator, electric fan, and adjustable thermostat. A brand-new cylinder head was installed, and the clutch was replaced with an upgraded carbon-faced release bearing. The overdrive transmission was rebuilt, the rear axle fitted with new wheel bearings and seals, and a stainless steel exhaust system was added. Additional updates include a new fuel pump, tank sending unit, and upgraded rear suspension with shocks and new springs that lower the car 1.5 inches. Braking has been fully renewed with all new components.
The cabin has been restored with leather seating front and rear, new carpeting, door panels, and visors. The original dash was repaired and repainted, while all-new window mechanisms and rubber seals were installed. Remarkably, the rubber sill covers and headliner are original, and remain in excellent condition. A hidden Bluetooth stereo system provides modern convenience without disrupting the classic look. Other upgrades include a new steering wheel, heater control valve, heater core, and blinker switch. All lights and gauges are operational.
The body received a professional, glass-out, show-quality repaint in its original Carmine Red at a cost of $9,500. The finish displays a deep gloss and excellent presentation. A new front grille was installed, while the bumpers and glass remain original. The car rides on new tires—including the spare—ensuring road readiness.
