1972 Lotus Europa – Exceptionally Complete California Restoration Candidate

This 1972 Lotus Europa is an outstanding and highly complete restoration candidate. It is a California car showing 59,583 believed-original miles, last registered in 1985, and presents as a very solid, damage-free example—an ideal foundation for a proper restoration.

Nearly everything appears intact and original. All interior knobs, switches, and gauges are present, and most exterior badging remains in place. The car retains its original jack and tool kit, air filters and intake plenum, head crossover tube, spare tire, and other factory components.  It even retains the original metal plate on the undercarriage, bridging the fiberglass body to the front cross section of the backbone chassis —  strong evidence of how complete and unmolested this Europa remains.

Power is provided by the original Lotus Twin Cam Big Valve engine equipped with Stromberg carburetors. The engine does not currently turn over by hand. The original Renault Type 352 four-speed manual gearbox remains installed.

Structurally, the chassis is very solid, showing only surface rust and no signs of structural damage. All suspension mounting points appear straight and intact.

Cosmetically, the fiberglass body is straight and free of damage, with excellent panel gaps throughout. The doors open and close easily, with none of the sag often seen on Europas. The factory L12 paint code indicates the car was originally finished in Lagoon Blue, and evidence of the original color can still be seen in select areas. The windshield and side glass appear to be original and are free of major defects.

Overall, this is an exceptionally complete, highly original Lotus Europa that offers an excellent starting point for a high-quality restoration.

This vehicle is sold with a clean California title.
