Offered for sale is this very solid and mechanically sorted 1968 Triumph TR250, owned by the previous caretaker since 1999, who described it as a car where “there isn’t a bolt I haven’t touched over the last 20 years.” The overall goal of the restoration and long-term ownership was to keep the car as original as possible, while incorporating a handful of tasteful upgrades to improve reliability and driving enjoyment.

Notable upgrades include electronic ignition, velocity stacks, Koenig wheels, an upgraded steering wheel, an upgraded transmission mount, and a header. The tires are in great condition with no dry rot. The convertible top is currently not installed, however the bows and a brand-new top are included and have never been fitted.

A major body restoration was completed in 2005, starting with a frame that was already in excellent condition. The bodywork was removed, all rust was professionally cut out and replaced with metal by an expert at Applewood Motors in Virginia (now retired), and the car was refinished in Triumph Emerald Green, which remains the paint color today. In 2006, the floorboards were replaced in the correct original-style design. In 2010, the car received a complete new interior (wool) along with a new wiring harness, and the seats were refurbished in leather. The top end of the engine was rebuilt in the early 2000s, including machining of the cylinder head to increase compression, improving overall performance. A large amount of documentation and receipts are included, dating back to the early 2000s.

Mechanically, the 2.5L inline-six starts immediately, maintains excellent oil pressure, and shows no overheating issues. The gearbox and clutch operate well, with no grinding into gears and no popping out of gear. There is a small “thud” from the rear end under hard acceleration, though it does not seem overly concerning. Suspension, brakes, and steering feel normal and appropriate for the car, and all exterior lights are operational.

Cosmetically, the interior presents beautifully with the dashboard, seats, carpets, and dash pad all showing extremely well and free of major blemishes. The engine bay is clean, tidy, and largely original in appearance. The body and paint are driver quality overall, with chips and scratches throughout, and panel gaps are generally good with a few inconsistencies.

The undercarriage and body are completely rust free with no signs of previous damage, making this TR250 an excellent example that is ready to be driven and enjoyed immediately.

Known Issues:
The speedometer is not currently working. A new cable has been installed, and the speedometer itself works mechanically, but the cable does not appear to be properly engaged.
