1963 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ7 – Concours-Level Restoration – Incredible Turn-Key Example – Overdrive.

This 1963 Austin-Healey 3000 MKII BJ7 represents the first “convertible” Big Healey configuration—featuring a far more refined and weather-tight design than earlier roadster models. The BJ7 introduced a snug, easy-to-operate folding soft top, a wraparound windshield, swiveling quarter lights, and proper roll-up windows, all of which dramatically improved comfort and usability. The return to twin carburetors also simplified tuning without sacrificing performance, maintaining output at roughly 131 horsepower, paired with the desirable center-shift gearbox.

This particular BJ7 underwent a full ground-up, frame-off, nut-and-bolt restoration to a very high standard. It wears a full set of new MWS chrome wire wheels—including the spare—mounted with BF Goodrich tires. The restoration quality places the car near concours level, with show-quality paint complemented by only a few minor blemishes (see images). In 2017, it sold at the Motostalgia Auction in Fernandina Beach, Florida for $79,200 including buyer’s premium. Driven only 296 miles since restoration.

On the road, this Healey delivers exactly what you expect from a fully sorted, expertly restored 3000. The engine fires instantly, pulls strongly, and maintains excellent oil pressure. Power delivery feels lively—closer to a BJ8 than a typical MKII—and the overdrive engages and disengages crisply.

The interior is beautifully restored and trimmed in leather, with all materials presenting essentially as new. Every gauge functions properly.

Under the bonnet, the engine bay is exceptionally correct, impeccably clean, and restored to show-level detail. The underside is equally impressive—straight, immaculate, and properly finished. Suspension and driveline components have been completely rebuilt, and a new full exhaust system has been installed.

Chrome work throughout the car is either brand new or expertly re-plated. The soft top is in excellent condition and fits perfectly.

Overall, this is a truly turn-key BJ7—an outstanding example restored with care, accuracy, and quality, ready to be enjoyed immediately.
