1986 Alfa Romeo GTV6 – 3.0L Busso V6 / OZ Racing Superleggera Wheels / West Coast Car

This exceptionally well-maintained 1986 Alfa Romeo GTV6 has been lovingly cared for by its previous owner since 1998. Over the years, several tasteful upgrades have been performed to enhance both performance and drivability while preserving the car’s classic character.

A 3.0L Busso V6 from a donor Alfa Romeo Milano was installed within the last few thousand miles, replacing the factory 2.5L unit. The donor engine reportedly had around 80,000 miles at the time of the swap and delivers noticeably stronger torque and smoother power delivery. A modern GPS-based speedometer and odometer have been fitted—an elegant solution to the notoriously unreliable factory GTV6 instruments.  The transaxle shifts smoothly through all gears, and there is no grinding whatsoever into second gear.  The clutch feels healthy and engages smoothly.  The A/C system was not retained during the engine swap.

The car easily passes California smog and runs beautifully. Both front and rear bumpers have been professionally tucked approximately four inches inward from the factory federal positioning, greatly improving the car’s proportions and restoring the clean, original Giugiaro design.

The suspension setup includes Bilstein shocks at all four corners, newer springs, and upgraded or refreshed bushings throughout. Rear brake calipers have been rebuilt, and the car rides on a striking set of Italian-made OZ Racing Superleggera wheels wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza tires.

As a lifelong West Coast car, this GTV6 is completely rust-free, with a solid undercarriage and no evidence of prior accident damage—confirmed by a clean Carfax report. It was repainted at some point in its life; while the finish presents well for a driver, some sanding marks beneath the surface can be seen upon close inspection.

The interior is exceptionally clean, with minimal wear and no major blemishes. There is a small crack in the top dash pad (see images), but otherwise the cabin presents beautifully. All electrical components and gauges are operational, with the exception of one fog light. The rear taillights have been upgraded to LED units for improved reliability and visibility.

The driving experience is excellent—markedly sharper, faster, and more responsive than a stock GTV6. The additional power from the 3.0L engine, combined with its refined suspension and subtle aesthetic improvements, makes this Alfa an outstanding example.

This is a turnkey, solid, and well-maintained GTV6 with desirable upgrades, a clean history, and the unmistakable soul of Alfa’s most beloved V6 sports coupe.

This GTV6 is currently registered in California and is Sold with a clean and clear CA title.
